Join us for a continuing education course on health equity in dentistry. Learn how implicit bias, racism, and socioeconomic status manifest as health inequities that can ultimately influence oral health outcomes - and gain practical strategies, self-reflection tools, and cultural competence skills to provide more equitable care for patients from all backgrounds. Course participants will examine the impact of implicit bias, racism, and socioeconomic factors on oral health outcomes while engaging in guided self-reflection to recognize and address personal biases. This course meets the requirements of WAC 246- 12-830 and RCW 43.70.613 Ann has been practicing dental hygiene clinically since 2016, specializing in restorative dentistry full-time but passionately remaining active and up to date in preventive care. Previously featured in ADHA's Access journal for restorative functions, and co-editor for the Restorative Therapy chapter in the award winning 6th edition of Darby and Walsh Dental Hygiene Theory and Practice - she enjoys sharing her knowledge and expertise in the field of dental hygiene and beyond.

Join periodontist Dr. Lloyd Tucker for a practical continuing education course designed to help dental hygienists better understand implant treatment planning considerations, the importance of healthy peri-implant soft tissues, and current best practices for implant homecare recommendations. This clinically focused program will provide valuable insights to strengthen your role in implant maintenance, patient education, early identification of complications, and supporting long-term implant success. Whether you routinely care for implant patients or want to expand your expertise, you'll leave with actionable knowledge you can apply at your very next recare appointment. Learning Objectives: 1. Understand why adjacent missing teeth should not always be replaced with adjacent implants. 2. Appreciate adequate space needed for soft tissue to be present around implants. 3. Review current outlooks on recommended homecare methods for implants. Speaker Bio: Dr. Lloyd Tucker is a highly respected periodontist with more than 30 years of clinical experience and advanced training in periodontics, dental implants, and comprehensive periodontal therapy. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, he completed his General Practice Residency at The Jewish General Hospital of Montreal before earning both his Certificate in Periodontics and Master of Science in Dentistry from the University of Washington. Dr. Tucker is known for his commitment to lifelong learning, regularly attending advanced national and international continuing education programs focused on cutting-edge periodontal and implant therapies. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Tucker has served as former Editor of the Seattle Study Club Journal and currently advises the International Association of Dental Specialists. He also serves as President of the Olympic Peninsula Dental Society and maintains active membership in numerous professional organizations, including the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Periodontology. Beyond dentistry, Dr. Tucker is passionate about history, languages, outdoor adventure, and spending time with his family and community.

Dental Hygiene Advocates of Washington exists to champion the profession of Dental Hygiene in Washington State and ensure appropriate education and licensure of dental professionals as a means of protecting the health and safety of Washington State citizens. We intend to support legislation that advanced the profession and enhances public health and access to care using various media and communication modalities.
